When you’re into DIY woodworking, you know that most people have some wood slices lying around waiting for you to work your magic with them. You do a lot of bigger projects so much that you would think scraps of wooden slices are trash already when in fact you can create a lot of crafts with wood rounds.
You can use hard wood since they are close-grained and would look beautifully after sanding. Here are four creative and clever wood round crafts you can do with all those wooden slices you have.

Crafts with wood rounds: Wooden coasters
It’s a useful item at home, so you can be sure that all your efforts won’t go to waste. Creating coasters will need minimal materials.
You must prepare a few pieces of wooden slice depending on how many coasters you’d like to make, some acrylic paint, stencils, and varnish.
Sand and smooth the surface of your wood slices.
Place a paint pattern of your choice on top of the round. Using a sponge, dab acrylic paint on the pattern.
Remove the pattern, and it will reveal your beautiful design. Spray wood varnish and let it dry.
Create a napkin or tissue holder
This is another useful item on your dining table. If you’re into cozy interiors, adding a napkin holder out of wood is a nice touch.
You’ll use the same materials and marine glue but note that one holder needs 3 rounds each.
First, cut one side of a round and make two of these. Glue the cut-out or flat side on top of the third wood round.
Let it dry for two days. Once dry, you can paint on it and apply varnish.
Create a simple hanging ornament
If you want some simple wood slice projects, a hanging ornament would be a great idea. You can hang this on a shelf, by the door, or a nice kitchen shelving or cart. (Do you see where we’re going here?)
It’s a beautiful addition if you have a shelf for coffee and tea, and it goes well with the rest of your DIY crafts here.
Cut out a round piece of felt and grab a few smaller pieces of log rounds.
Using marine glue, glue it on the felt. Don’t forget to place glue on the sides, too.
You can hand paint or use a marker to write ‘Welcome’ or design it with whatever you think would look good. You can also add a wooden ornament to hang in between.
Make a heat resistant trivet
A trivet is one of the artsy large wood slice crafts that you can do.
Plus, this makes a great match with your coasters. You can create the same design using the same materials. It makes a beautiful teatime display where you can showcase your wood slice painting ideas.
Get a bigger wood round and a few smaller ones.
Using transparent glue, stick the smaller slices around the big one. Make sure to place glue at the side, too, so the smaller pieces stick to each other.
Once you encircle the big log slice with the small ones, tie some jute string around it so they’ll tighten together. Let it dry for two days.
Once it is dry, the pieces are now strongly glued together.
Continue with painting the surface of the wood rounds according to your liking. You can still use the stencil pattern for this.
Lastly, spray varnish and let it dry. It looks good, doesn’t it?
Takeaway
These crafts with wood rounds give you an idea on how to maximize every slice of your wood and turn it into something useful and creative. So if you have a few of them lying around, think about all the beautiful crafts with wood slices that you could do.
