12 Clever BBQ Hacks to Try Out at Home

By Cherie Gozon

Summer is here and you know what it means — it’s barbecue time! Whether you have it for lunch or dinner in your backyard with some beer, barbecuing can be quite a task sometimes. So here are a few BBQ hacks and some grilling tips for beginners to make your family summer barbecue an enjoyable experience.

12 clever bbq hacks to try out at home

DIY Food Warmer

Don’t let that food go cold. Place your food in a foil pan. Tape another one on top to keep your food warm.

Spiral Cut Hot Dogs

Skewer a hot dog and run a knife down your dog while spinning it.

Spiral hot dogs cook through better and are super tasty. The grooves also hold condiments better.

The Perfect Grill Marks

Try this BBQ griddle hack and make your meat look as good as it tastes.

Place your meat so that the endpoints are at 10 o’clock and let it sear for two minutes. Rotate the meat so that the same endpoints are at 2 o’clock.

Flip it over and create the perfect grill marks on the other side of your meat.

Use A Muffin Tin For Condiments

Keeping a bunch of containers on your table can take up a lot of space. Use a muffin tin instead.

Place things like grilled onions, tomatoes, ketchup, and mustard in the muffin cubbies.

Keep the Meat Moist

This is one of the grilling hacks that’s worth trying, especially if you always end up with dry meat when grilling. Make ice cubes from beef broth and place them on your meat.

This will keep your meat moist and juicy. You can also use butter.

Marinate In Beer — One of the Best BBQ hacks

Bet you didn’t know about this BBQ hack! Grilling your beer in meat can make it healthier.

Grilling causes carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and heterocyclic amines to form in meat. You can negate this by marinating your meat in dark beer.

Use Two Skewers Instead Of One

Your food can twist around when you flip your skewers. This can make your food cook unevenly. Use two skewers to keep your food in place.

Check Your Propane Levels

Pour a cup of boiling water on the side of your propane tank.

When you feel the tank you’ll notice the top will feel hot and the bottom will be cool. Your propane level is where the hot and cool spot meet.

Use An Onion To Clean The Grill

Using a wire brush to clean your grill can be dangerous. Use an onion instead. Stab half of the onion with a fork and use the cut side to clean your hot grill.

Grill Fish on Lemon

Having fish break apart as you cook it is so annoying. Lay some lemons down on your grill and place the fish on top.

When you flip the fish pick up the lemons so your fish stay intact. Lay more lemons down and flip your fish on top of it.

Keep Pork Sweet

Fill a spray bottle with some apple juice. Occasional spritz your pork or other meats when grilling. This will keep your cut nice and tender and will add a touch of sweetness.

Egg Cartons To Light Charcoal

Some say that lighter fluid gives your food an unwanted taste. You don’t have to use any at all to light your charcoal. Just place your coal in egg cartons and use a lighter to set the carton on fire.

The coals will eventually light up when the carton burns.
