Four Self Sustainable Living Habits to Try Out

By mgarcia

What does self sustainable living mean and how do we encourage sustainability? Being more sustainable might mean different things to different people. To simplify, it is about using the fewest amount of resources possible in order to help protect the earth and climate.

It also means reducing your carbon footprint by limiting the resources you use, which can be done in a variety of different ways. Sustainable living is an alternative lifestyle that is influencing more people today.

Four self sustainable living habits to try out

Stop Buying Things That You Don’t Need

One of the first sustainable habits to adopt is to stop compulsive buying. There are so many shopping websites today, and discounted items are really tempting.

That is the reason why people are getting addicted to online shopping. Most of the time, those items get stored and forgotten in your closet for months or even years.

Also, if you are buying paper plates or plastic cups and using them at home, is that necessary? You can use your glass plates and wash them when you are done. This will help reduce your waste overall.

Any foam paper products are terrible for the environment, so switch to something that can be reused or at the very least, recycled.

Eating Local and Organic

Another sustainable habit to adopt is eating local and organic. Doing this will benefit us and the environment as well.

Eating organic and locally is one of the solutions to sustainability, and it’s easy to do with local farmer’s markets and CSAs. Don’t worry about where you can get them because there are many locations that also offer delivery or pickup of produce, meat, eggs, and honey from multiple farms in your area, so that is another great resource to look into.

If you have a big space, you can even try and plant your food. By choosing to eat naturally and locally, you are helping your local farming community, getting fresh ingredients, and saving your environment with less transportation of goods. It also tends to use fewer materials for transport.

Choose to Start a Sustainable Capsule Wardrobe

Have you ever heard about a sustainable wardrobe? A capsule wardrobe works by minimizing your closet to a select group of pieces.

A sustainable capsule wardrobe means choosing clothes that will go with multiple styles that you enjoy wearing. It also means you no longer buy new clothes just because they are a trend of the moment.

Start by putting more thought into the clothes you buy, and make sure each piece of clothing in your closet brings you joy. You can start by removing items you never wear or no longer enjoy and donate them to people who might need these clothing pieces.

Learn How to Reuse or Recycle Is Great For Self Sustainable Living

Sustainable recycling is a great way to start sustainable living. Recycling and sustainability would start by knowing what you can recycle and reuse.

For example, you know it is hard to recycle plastic food storage bags, but there are reusable bags that you could use. When you empty a glass jar of mayonnaise or pickles, rinse it out, and put it in your glass recycling, or you can even reuse it as a food storage container.

Recycling and sustainability go hand-in-hand.

Changing your lifestyle will not happen overnight.

It takes a while to adjust, and of course, you need to research and practice. Once you get used to self sustainable living, you will see how great your choice was.
