By Cherie Gozon

Keeping a clean home can be such a chore, especially when it seems like you can’t keep everything clean enough. But did you know that you have one thing that can help you ease that? Your dishwasher! And we bet you’re not aware of these dishwasher tips we’re about to tell you.

A dishwasher isn’t only for, well, washing dishes. One of the best ways for how to use a dishwasher is to clean other common household items, too. Here are 13 unusual things to put in dishwasher that could just change the way you clean them:

Dishwasher tips: 13 unusual things to put in dishwasher

Vacuum cleaner attachments

The vacuum cleaner easily accumulates dust with the job that it’s doing. Though you can simply wipe down the dust, the attachments need a thorough cleaning.

Use a dishwasher to remove dirt, dust, and bacteria.

You cannot expect to get the cleanest result when you use a dirty tool so make sure that you also clean the attachments of your vacuum.

Use dishwasher to clean garden tools

Small garden tools can be cleaned in your dishwasher. These tools get easily dirty as they get in contact with the soil and we don’t know what bacteria they can harbor.

Some don’t spend the time to clean them, but for proper aftercare of these garden tools, might as well wash them too.

Exhaust fan covers

It’s pretty obvious that these are always covered with dust and dirt. You don’t need to clean them every day though but consider giving them a deep clean every two months.

If you want a more convenient way of cleaning the exhaust fan covers, you can simply let the dishwasher get the job done.

Dishwasher Tips: Silicone oven mitts

Sweat can make the oven mitts smell bad when you don’t care about giving them some wash time. To make sure that your silicone oven mitts are kept fresh, wash them occasionally using a dishwasher.

You can enjoy cooking more when your kitchen stuff smell and look clean and fresh.

Microwave turntables

Kids just don’t mind cleaning it after heating their snacks.

Sure you can wipe it off easily. But when the microwave turntable gets so dirty because you always forget to clean it once a week, let it take a trip through the dishwasher.

Soap dishes

The soap dishes hold what we need to clean our bodies. But, they also need some washing especially when soaps have hardened in them.

Brushing them clean can be time-consuming so why not put them in the dishwasher to make things a lot easier.

Toothbrush holders

You’ll find the toothbrush holders too grimy when you ignore them for a long time. It is best that you clean them regularly. One option is to use vinegar or baking soda.

Using the dishwasher can get the task done in minutes.

Pet toys

Pets become unhappy when you deprive them of their toys. For them to be happy, especially when they’re feeling bored, let them have fun with their toys.

It cannot be avoided that these toys are brought outside the home, so before you allow these toys to be used inside, have them cleaned in the dishwasher.

And if you’re specifically wondering, can you put kongs in the dishwasher, the good news is that you can!

Sporting gear

Getting rid of sweat and smell is what you need to do for your kids’ sporting gear. They would not mind cleaning these since they’re just after fun and play.

But, you don’t have to do all the hard work since you can definitely put these in the dishwasher.

Potatoes

If you need to cook a potato-overloaded recipe, then you can avoid having to wash them individually by using the dishwasher.

Make sure that you don’t put detergent in doing so. Now, it is much easier to clean potatoes.

Grill grates

Clean the grill grate which you have not used for a long time. You can put it in the dishwasher for easy cleaning too.

When there’s stuck-on food, let it soak in the water with soap first to loosen the dirt. It’s a great idea to wash the less heavy grates using the dishwasher.

Bath toys

When kids are extra playful in the bathroom, they drop their toys on the floor and harbor germs.

Cleaning them can sometimes be a hassle, and at some point you wonder, can you put bath toys in the dishwasher?

Good news! You can. Wash these in the dishwasher along with the other toys of your kids to get them clean. Whatever it is, so long as the plastic doesn’t melt, you can have it inside the dishwasher.
