Hey Everyone! Today is Day 3 of 5 Days Of Dollar Store Crafts as part of the 5 day series at iHomeschool Network!!
Today we are making decorative mini vases.
Materials:
- Small vase (or any size you like), purchased at the dollar store
- Glitter
- ModPodge (if you would like to make your own, with glue from the dollar store just mix two parts glue and one part water). or spray adhesive (we ended up not using the spray)
- Tissue Paper (we grabbed a few with different and random patterns)
- Painters Tape (picked it up at the dollar store) if you would like to tape off your design (you’ll see below)
We all did something a little different:
The other one was done “freestyle” by my 4 year old
The details:
Fist rip up your tissue paper, in to messy pieces. We tried to do it with scissors at first, and then realised it was just an unnecessary step.
Then, brush some ModPodge onto the glass.
Next, just start placing the pieces of tissue paper randomly. Topping every so often with a little more glue to seal it all together. Don’t worry if you overlap the tape a bit, it’s really just there as a guide.
Since two of our vases were taped off, we immediately removed the tape once all the paper was on the surface we left exposed. I didn’t want to leave the tape on too long because I didn’t want it to stick and rip off the tissue paper when we removed it.
The edges lifted a little, still…but we just gently brushed them back down. After that we brushed some more ModPodge on the now untouched part of the vase, and put a whole lot of glitter over it. My 4 yr old had done hers without leaving any glass exposed, so she just put glitter all over hers. :)
See you tomorrow, for another Dollar Store Craft!!!
