When I can, I love adding in fun elements to our homeschool. With my eldest it’s becoming a bit more difficult to find things outside-of-the-box-fun, to supplement her science lessons. For this reason I was pretty stoked when presented with the opportunity to check out Atomidoodle, an incredibly awesome chemistry app from Hero Factor Games
I’m an Android Tablet User (Nook HD), and as soon as I grabbed the app from the Google Play Store she went to town!
You hear about educational games that supposedly stimulate the brain, not just in the subject area its goal is to teach, but in others as well. With Atomidoodle, your kiddo will be engaged as far as math, critical thinking, logic, and they’ll be stimulated to think quickly too!
Lots of awesomeness that this Mom loves wrapped into a fun design that my kiddo loves! Plus, this game is so much fun! I played a few rounds with her and I felt like a kid again! It was challenging and totally engaging, but at the same time it was just a blast to play! Seriously, I totally wish I had something like this when I was a kid.
How to play Atomidoodle
To play the game, you need to get the elements to the “examinator”. Once you meet your quota you unlock that element. Throughout the round, the “examinator” displays what it wants. The goal is to work the elements released through the maze, to the “examinator”.
Sometimes you’ll get an element that needs to be broken down (fission) or combined (fusion) with another in order to meet the request of the “examinator”. This is where quick math skills come into play, and keeps sharpening their skills throughout the entire gameplay.
Once you’ve satisfied the “examinator” quota, that element will be unlocked. Within your periodic table you’ll see the new element (plus any others that have been unlocked). You can see all the information about those elements right there too.
Another cool feature my daughter particularly liked was the bits of extra information the game provided throughout. As she completed rounds chemistry fact cards would pop up sharing neat details. Those were fun to read over together!

Sharpening Periodic Table Skills
I adore this app, and it’s such a great tool to supplement Periodic Table learning. Diversifying the setting of content learned is essential to reaching mastery. This is applicable with any subject, but when it comes to science it’s not always easy to create alternative settings where your child can practice their skills.
With Atomidoodle we’ve added an incredibly useful tool to help our kids sharpen their Periodic Table skills, and it’s been added to our must-have items for our homeschool.
