Hey Guys! Today I’m sharing our 2011-2012 curriculum choices. I went through a lot of searching for this school year and found some things I really loved. I didn’t want to stick to one specific curriculum because I felt it created to much of a narrow learning experience. I love mixing and matching different resources to create a curriculum that works best for us.
We chose Sonlight Introduction to American History (1&2) plus all the readers that go along with it. My daughter loves to read (thankfully) and she has really enjoyed the readers!
We chose Horizons Math and really LOVE it!!! We purchased book 1,2 and The Teacher’s guide. The Teacher’s Guide has all the answer guides for tests and lessons, the quarterly tests and semester tests, as well as the worksheets. The actual “guide” part for the lessons felt unnecessary for me. Maybe when she gets up to older grades I will use that part more. I will most likely be using this curriculum for Math next year.
We chose First Language Lessons for the Well-Trained Mind along with the Teachers Guide which is necessary to have in order to teach the lessons. This has been our favorite subject (oddly enough) to do this year. It is really well explained and has enough repetition that helps the student remember what they are learning, but not too much where it becomes just boring.
We also used some books we found at Barns & Noble. We bought them in store so we got each subject separately, but this book has them all packed into one.
Flash Kids Complete Curriculum
We chose A Reason For Handwriting: Transition. We really liked and will most likely use the rest of their levels. The curriculum has a teacher guide but I never got around to purchasing it. It isn’t really needed but i’m sure it would have it’s perks to having it.
We chose Zoology 1 (Apologia Educational Ministries) along with the Notebooking Journal.
